Thailande -Bangkok- Beginning of the trip

Publié le par georges

So we arrived on Snday night after a 12-hours-long flight. As soon as i get out of the airport this wet sensation overrun you.
I wait half an hour to take the second bus. The new brand internatioanl airport is located at 20 km from tBangkok. It takes one hour in bus to get to the downtown. Once there, i dicover a huge water battle in the whole city. In fact its the Buddhist new year. we are in 2551 on the buddhist calendar. It is called the Songkran festival. The tradition trandform the entire city in global water fight.
I met julien and jacques at the hotel restaurant. They has just finished their diner. I eat on a hurry and we decide to go to the Patpong sector, the famous ping Pong show area. The first taxi told us it is closed cause of the festival and propose an other place (where he gets tips in fact).
After the show, we go back into the center, to Patpong area and much to our surprise, all bars and  streets are open and full of people, overwhelmingly young thai. It s an incredible party outside with speaker spitting music in the street.
Impossible to stay dry, after a while all of us are wet through, soaked to the skin. Thais are dancing, throwing water globally having a lof of fun...
We walking back to the hotel surrounging by smells remembering you that you are definitely in Asia. Asia is above all an antology of odours for me..
We fall asleep tired of the night, the flight and with recollections of the night: A paper on which you see: "How are you bidelefan"  written during the Ping Pong show  without the hands nor with  the mouth..?????!!!!!

The next morning: we sleep in. Wake up at 11, we enjoy the swimming pool with our Swedish next-door neighbours.

Not easy to get in touch with swedish girls. Swedish girl se la cree un poco...

Pgm of the day: Ride into Bkk, see temples, interesting districts, shopping, chinatown and teh backpackers area:Khaosan road. We thougt that the Songkran festival was over, but on our first tuk tuk run to the center, 3 cold buckets of water remember us that it's still going on.... We hadn't foreseen this case and at the end of our first run, we are totally wet again. We arrive in Khaosan Road, we understood that it is the heart of the battle... gasppp!!!

On these videos, jacques trying to get its sandal back and Khaosan road under water.

5km from Khaosan an other aspect of Bangkok. Building, Skytrain, concrete construction...

After a stop at the local starbucks and a shopping cession at the MBK, where i bought my hat, we go back  to Khaosan to soak up the songkran festival atmosphere and sit in a guesthouse bar we spotted before.

Once at the bar, we are looking for others BKK interesting places in the Lonely Planet which have just bought. I remember now, we went to the MBK to buy the bookguide, because we suffered from a crual lake of information to book our trip in thailand.

Here we met a french family. The girl was travelling all around Asia, she was studing anthropology. She was rejoined by her brother (who went here to do dreads) and her mother with who we spoke during the evening.
